For the Kohen Gadol's reading, the scroll passes from hand to hand in order of honour: the synagogue attendant takes it and gives it to the head of the synagogue, who gives it to the deputy, who gives it to the Kohen Gadol. Standing, he receives it and reads. The three stay near him during the reading.
