The chamber where the hides of the korbanot are salted. On its roof is the ritual bath of the Kohen Gadol: four of the five immersions of Yom Kippur take place there, a linen sheet stretched between him and the people.

Project decisionAdopted: the distribution of Yoma 19a and the Rambam (Beit HaBechirah 5:17) — Melach, Parva and Medichin in the south, Etz, Gola and Gazit in the north. The standard text of Middot 5:3–4 reverses the two sides; Tosafot Yom Tov (Middot 5:3) notes the variant. The Rambam also places these chambers “in the Ezrat Israel”; the tour sets them against the wall of the Azara. The three southern chambers are inside the Azara, not on the terrace of the Cheil, because the Mishna places the immersions of the Kohen Gadol “in the sacred area, on the Parva” (Yoma 3:3); the roof of a building raised outside the precinct is not sanctified (Tosafot Yom Tov on Middot 5:3).
