לִשְׁכַּת הַטְּלָאִים

Lishkat HaTla'im

See it in the tour

The chamber where the lambs of the korban tamid wait, already examined and found without blemish. No fewer than six are kept, enough for a Shabbat and the two days of Rosh HaShanah. In the morning the officer sends for the lamb of the day here. Middot places the chamber in the south-west, Tamid in the north-west; the Gemara reconciles them: it is long, along the west wall, and almost reaches both corners.

Dimensions

  • south-west corner, in the sacred half
  • 6 × 11.5 amot, from the south wall to the boundary of the sacred area
  • manger, straw, barrier in the doorway

Project decisionAdopted: Rav Adda bar Yitzchak's answer (Yoma 17a), an elongated chamber that looks south-western or north-western depending on the side one comes from (Rashi). The Gemara adds that “it stood mostly in the south-west”. Tour's choice: the length, which stops at the boundary of the sacred area, and the furnishings.
