One of the two chambers flanking the Gate of Nikanor, in the Ezrat Israel according to the Rambam (Beit HaBechirah 5:17) — the other being the Lishkat Pinchas HaMalbish. The chavitin are made here, the daily offering of the Kohen Gadol, kneaded, shaped and baked within the sacred enclosure: a table, a hearth, and the pan, the machavat of Leviticus 6:14, flat according to R. Chananya ben Gamliel.

Project decisionAdopted: the Rambam (Beit HaBechirah 5:17) puts the Lishkat Pinchas “to the right of the eastern gate” and the chavitin chamber “to its left”; for one entering westward, the right is the north, so the chavitin chamber is in the south. Tour's choice: the arrangement of the table, hearth and pan.
