Project decisionOpen question: Yoma 19a gives the Kohen Gadol two chambers, Parhedrin and Avtinas, one in the north and one in the south, “and we do not know” which is where; the Gemara finds Parhedrin in the south more plausible, then rejects the argument. Only the Jerusalem Talmud (Yoma 1:5) puts the Avtinas chamber “above Sha'ar HaMayim, and next to his chamber”: the tour sets the Lishkat Parhedrin against it, and so puts both chambers in the south, which Yoma 19a rules out. Set aside: Bartenura (Middot 5:4) and the Rambam (Beit HaBechirah 5:17) identify the Lishkat Parhedrin with the Lishkat HaEtz — in the north according to the Rambam, in the south in the text of the Mishna that Bartenura comments on — which Abba Shaul says was the chamber of the Kohen Gadol (Middot 5:4).
