The kohen takes from the log of oil and pours it into his fellow's left palm — into his own is valid too. “The kohen dips his right finger in the oil that is on his left palm” and sprinkles seven times toward the Kodesh HaKodashim, dipping for each sprinkling; if he did not aim true, they remain valid. Then he puts the oil on the ear lobe, the thumb and the big toe, in place of the blood of the asham; the rest of the oil in his palm, on the head of the one being purified. What remains of the log is shared among the kohanim.
