At each immersion a sheet of fine linen is spread between the Kohen Gadol and the people. Behind it he undresses, goes down to immerse, comes up, dries himself, puts on the garments brought to him and sanctifies his hands and feet. The first time above the Water Gate, the others on the roof of the Beit HaParva.
