The Kohen Gadol, in his four white linen garments, comes to the goat that will be sent to Azazel. A strip of crimson has been tied on its head, and it stands facing the gate through which it will leave. The Kohen Gadol lays both hands on it and confesses the sins of all Israel, pronouncing the Name as it is written. Then he hands it to the one who leads it into the wilderness. The Yom Kippur tour shows him with both palms on the goat's forehead, north-east of the altar.

The tour places him against the goat's flank, facing the same way, his hands between its horns. The place north-east of the altar, the breed of the goat and the way the crimson strip is tied are also choices. The mitznefet is the same linen band as the priests' migba'at, wound flat.
