The chamber of discreet gifts. Those who feared sin put money in it in secret, and poor people of good family drew their living from it, in secret too. The Rambam gives it as the example of the gift where the giver does not know to whom he gives, nor the poor man from whom he receives.

Project decisionNo source places this chamber: the Raavad wonders at it for its neighbor (Melekhet Shlomo on Tamid 3:5), and Mishnat Eretz Yisrael suggests that both opened onto the Ezrat Nashim. The tour places it beneath the Ezrat Yisrael: a choice, as is the cedar chest bound in bronze. Variant: the Sifrei (Devarim 117), quoting the Mishnah, reads “in Jerusalem” instead of “in the Mikdash”; it places nothing in the Temple.
