The Beit HaMoked straddles the boundary of the sacred area: two of its chambers lie within it, two outside. Beam ends jut from the walls where the sacred area begins, so that one knows on which side one stands: holy offerings are eaten within the sacred area, and an impure kohen has no business beyond it. The wood stays on the 'hol side, for one plants “no tree” near the altar.
Dimensions
- three rows of cedar beam ends, on each side
- on the axis of the Azara wall, on the 'hol side
- one amah of projection

Project decisionAdopted: beam ends (Bartenura, Rashi), kept outside the sacred area (Tosafot Yom Tov). Set aside: the Rambam, who sees in them “lattices”, a grille laid on the floor to separate the two halves. Tour's choice: the number of rows, their heights, the section of the beams, the cedar. The Lishkat HaGazit, straddling the same wall, received the same beams by analogy.
